Ana Kolesar was born in 1950 in the town of Novi Sad, Yugoslavia. As a child,
she always had a keen interest in drawing. Her talents were recognized from an
early age and she was quickly accepted into the local College of Art. After graduation,
Ana became a teacher at the very same institution.
In 1987, Ana immigrated to Toronto, Canada where she began a career as an
independent artist. Besides painting she was doing craft and participated in numerous
shows and exhibitions.
Her specialty was in painting religious icons. In 1997 she moved to Niagara
Falls.
Ana J. Kolesar is an artist. She has developed a strong if idiosyncratic attachment
to art. Her purpose is to create form that embodies the physical content of what
she perceives and her emotions in response to the world.
Above all, from the rich traditions of religion, Ana has recognized that emotional
life can be turned into form, tenderness, nostalgia, desire and many other impulses.
She endeavors to be spiritually united with art work of the genius of the
Middle Ages, who drew the whole of humanity and universe through established Christian
rituals. Her wide ranging use of icons to express herself have made them her trade
mark.

Ana is modernist as well; she advocates the study of modern subjects in preference
to the classics.
Particularly when she is dealing with furniture and interior decoration, she
makes use of geometric motifs, curvilinear forms and sharply defined outlines.
In this way, she gives a new appearance to antiques.
